A Drawing a Day

Art Project: A is for Apples and Art

In the same wisdom as the saying about the apple, I’m prescribing myself a drawing a day to keep the creative blocks away. It’s been quite a while (4 years!) since I’ve done an artwork for myself. All the “art” I’ve done since that time were commissions or assignments or as a gift. Nothing that I would consider was really leading me to achieve my personal creative goals.

Tired of just moping about how un-prolific I’ve been, I decided to do something about it and challenge myself with an assignment: to do one drawing a day.

The objectives are simple – to keep creative ruts at bay, to refine my skills and hopefully discover my personal style and creative triggers during the process. Basically just going back to basics and building up from there.

The Mechanics:

1. Draw everyday. Anything that comes to mind, given that it is something I really WANT to draw. It’s not for anyone else to judge or approve of but me.

2. Minimum drawing time is 30 minutes.

3. It can be any size and medium.

4. Reflect on what I just drew. Thoughts about the process, any revelations or insight about myself or concept of the artwork.

Timeline: I’ll start with one month but this can be extended indefinitely.

I also would like to extend this project to anyone else that wants to join in. I think it would be a really interesting and exciting process with a lot of positive outcomes for yourself and your work.

If you are interested in doing this too, send me your drawing of the day and I’ll post it. Or leave me a link in the comments so I can check it out!

So, good luck to me and anyone else out there doing a drawing a day!
